Without a doubt, our swivel base rod holder is the "Ultimate Rod Holder" for the serious sportsman. Primarily designed for use with bent butt tackle, this flush mount swivel base rod holder features a unique swivel base that allows the rod butt to rotate when lateral pressure is applied to the rod tip. This is an indispensable tool, especially important in Giant Blue Fin Tuna fishing, where reel drags frequently exceed 60 pounds, potentially exerting tremendous force on the rod holder pin. This design eliminates sheared rod holder pins, and more importantly, allows the rod tip to follow the fish. This reduces the possibility of line fraying and enhances drag performance by ensuring the line flows directly over the roller tip, instead of sideways. Furthermore, the rod is more easily removed from the holder because it is not rigidly locked. When used with straight butt rods, this 0 degree ss flush mount swivel base holder functions as a standard rod holder. Straight butt rods can be manually rotated to maintain optimal line alignment with the roller tip. The swivel torque is adjustable via a half-inch stainless steel lock nut at the bottom of the rod holder, which controls the pressure on two nylon drag washers.
